Job Details Job Location: Tradition - Biloxi, MS 39532 Job Summary This position is for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Under the direction of the Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Dean of the School of Pharmacy, the primary responsibilities for this position include teaching didactic courses within a professional pharmacy curriculum along with service contributions to the department and school. Scholarly pursuits in basic science research will also be expected. Duties and Responsibilities This job description does not state or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Duties and responsibilities listed are essential job functions and exclude functions which are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. Institutional Assist the university in implementing the statement of purpose. Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional plan. Teaching Teach in an area of disciplinary expertise. Intro to Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Toxicology Principles of Drug Action I-IV Offered Electives Help design and coordinate core curricular and elective courses for the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum. Provide assistance in other departmental course work as requested by the department chair. Participate in continuing education and/or faculty development programs offered by the School. Service Participate as a faculty member in Departmental, School and University committees and activities as assigned. Serve as faculty mentor to Doctor of Pharmacy students as assigned. Serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations as assigned. Service at the local, regional and national level with professional associations and organizations. Service within the local and surrounding communities. Scholarship Conduct research in an area of expertise Remain current in specialty interest areas consistent with academic responsibility and program needs by disciplined reading, study and other faculty development activities Contribute to the body of knowledge in one’s discipline and primary interest area(s) via investigation or activity that shall terminate in publication of at least one article (or its equivalent) in a nationally circulated professional journal or poster/podium presentation at a national meeting per academic year. Seeking of extramural support for research interests is encouraged Qualifications Required Qualifications Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other appropriate discipline with focus in pharmacology. Possess a strong commitment to teaching excellence. Have excellent interpersonal and group communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Candidates with previous experience teaching in a professional health sciencs program (medicine, pharmacy, dental, etc) and/or a pharmacy background will be given preference. A minimum of two years of postgraduate experience is preferred. Physical Demands Must possess the physical ability to actively facilitate student learning in the classroom for extended period of times Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time Must have ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include teaching didactic courses within a professional pharmacy curriculum and contributing to service and scholarly pursuits in basic science research.
