RANK/TITLE: Medical Director, academic clinical biochemical geneticist. Academic rank (Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience) appointment stream; Board certification or eligible from an approved agency (ABMGG) DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh, matrixed between the Division of Clinical Chemistry in the Section of Laboratory Medicine and Division of Pediatric Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UPMC Children's Hospital. All Divisions in Laboratory Medicine have a strong interest in service, research, and education, and serve the UPMC Health System, comprised of over 40 hospitals and clinics. JOB DUTIES: But not limited to · Provides technical directorship of the clinical biochemical genetics laboratory to ensure regulatory compliance and quality patient test results within an integrated multi-hospital clinical service · Develop tests to address patient care needs, as identified by the Department of Pathology, Lab Medicine Divisions, and UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Medical Genetics service and Division of Pediatrics · Provide on call attending responsibilities including clinical consultations for physician and healthcare providers regarding test results and interpretations. · Actively participate in Divisional educational activities · Pursue basic/clinical/translational research/academic endeavors · Laboratory-based investigations and entrepreneurial efforts are supportable based on prior accomplishments. · Develops and delivers educational content for medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory staff both within the formal Clinical Chemistry rotation, elective teaching, informal teaching, and mentoring settings. · Infuses diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in their workstyle · Participates in trainee evaluations and Candidate interviews QUALIFICATIONS: · Experience working in a large clinical biochemical genetics laboratory that provides technical directorship in mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, metabolomics, and other relevant testing · Experience working with clinicians with testing planning and interpretation · A proven academic track record of effective communication in discovery and clinical reporting (written, verbal, and presentation). · Expertise in clinical laboratory quality management to ensure the total testing phase (pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases) is appropriate and standardized across the healthcare system · Expertise in Informatics and its clinical application in Pathology is a plus · Must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or M.D. with board certification or board eligible in Biochemical Genetics or equivalent specialty. SALARY and BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
