Organization: New Age Prep
Location: East Harlem, NYC (in-person role, alternating between two school sites)
Start Date: September 16, 2025
End Date: December 6, 2025
Schedule: 2 days per week (specific days are pre-set and will be reviewed with the candidate)
Time: Sessions run from 2:30 PM to 4:45 PM

ABOUT US:

New Age Prep is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing high-achieving students from underserved communities for admission into top private day and boarding schools. Our programs combine academic rigor, mentorship, and enrichment to equip students with the tools they need to succeed.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a seasoned, dynamic Math Teacher to lead our 11-week after-school test prep program for a handpicked group of high-performing 8th grade students. The program will focus on SHSAT Math for the first 7 weeks, followed by SSAT Math for the final 4 weeks.
Instruction is held in person at two East Harlem public middle schools, with the teacher alternating sites each week. Sessions take place two days per week, from 2:30 PM to 4:45 PM, on a pre-set calendar that will be reviewed with the selected candidate.
This role is ideal for an experienced classroom educator—not a tutor—who brings strong classroom management, a solid foundation in pre-algebra and basic algebra, and a commitment to equity and student success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience, ideally with middle school students
  • Strong knowledge of SHSAT and/or SSAT Math content and structure
  • Expertise in teaching pre-algebra and basic algebra
  • Proven classroom management skills, especially in after-school or public school settings
  • Experience working with public school students from diverse backgrounds
  • Culturally responsive and equity-centered teaching approach
  • Reliable transportation and ability to commute to East Harlem and alternate school sites
  • Familiarity with private/independent school admissions is a plus
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 5 per week

Experience:

  • Teaching math: 3 years (Required)

Ability to Commute:

  • New York, NY 10029 (Required)

Work Location: In perso

Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach SHSAT Math (7 weeks) and SSAT Math (4 weeks) to 8th grade students
  • Lead engaging 2-hour and 15-minute sessions twice per week, from 2:30 PM to 4:45 PM
  • Alternate weekly between two East Harlem middle school sites
  • Build a structured, supportive, and culturally responsive classroom environment
  • Track student progress and tailor instruction to meet learning needs
  • Collaborate with the New Age Prep team to align instruction with program goals
  • (Optional) Participate in student check-ins and curriculum planning discussions
