Description:
RESPITE WORKERS PROVIDE CARE IN THE FAMILY RESIDENCE OR COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDES: ATTENDING DAY CAMPS, PLANNING FUN OUTINGS, AND ASSISTING WITH ADAPTIVE SKILLS AT HOME.
Department: Respite
Reports to: Agency supervisors
Availability: Monday and Tuesday (12:30-3:30 pm)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A clear vulnerable sector criminal record check
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- A minimum of 1 year experience in working with children, adolescents, and/or adults with special needs
- Education in psychology, special education, or a related field AND/OR a college diploma in ABA, special education, or a related field is considered an asset
Knowledge of:
- Personal care and domestic skills
- Autism and developmental disabilities
- Interpersonal skills needed to manage crisis situations
- English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Bilingual applicants strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities:
- Provide respite care for children with exceptionalities within their home and community
- Plan and execute activities that are enjoyable to the client
- Assist with personal care of clients as needed (feeding, toileting, etc.)
- Maintain a clear understanding of the rules of the home
- Follow Connections Behaviour Consulting policies and procedures
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Collect descriptive data of challenging behaviours
- Maintain respect and confidentiality for all clients
- Maintain and protect the well-being of all clients while providing care and when emergency crisis situations arise
- Accurately maintain written records and notes
- Work a schedule which may incorporate providing services to multiple families
- Communicate professionally with customers, guardians, parents and supervisors
- Effectively and promptly communicate with supervisor in the event of an unusual occurrence or crisis situation within 24 hours of the event
- Other job duties as assigned by the supervisor
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 per week
