Description

RESPITE WORKERS PROVIDE CARE IN THE FAMILY RESIDENCE OR COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDES: ATTENDING DAY CAMPS, PLANNING FUN OUTINGS, AND ASSISTING WITH ADAPTIVE SKILLS AT HOME.

Department: Respite
Reports to: Agency supervisors
Availability: Monday and Tuesday (12:30-3:30 pm)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • A clear vulnerable sector criminal record check
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in working with children, adolescents, and/or adults with special needs
  • Education in psychology, special education, or a related field AND/OR a college diploma in ABA, special education, or a related field is considered an asset

Knowledge of:

  • Personal care and domestic skills
  • Autism and developmental disabilities
  • Interpersonal skills needed to manage crisis situations
  • English grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Responsibilities
  • Provide respite care for children with exceptionalities within their home and community
  • Plan and execute activities that are enjoyable to the client
  • Assist with personal care of clients as needed (feeding, toileting, etc.)
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the rules of the home
  • Follow Connections Behaviour Consulting policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Collect descriptive data of challenging behaviours
  • Maintain respect and confidentiality for all clients
  • Maintain and protect the well-being of all clients while providing care and when emergency crisis situations arise
  • Accurately maintain written records and notes
  • Work a schedule which may incorporate providing services to multiple families
  • Communicate professionally with customers, guardians, parents and supervisors
  • Effectively and promptly communicate with supervisor in the event of an unusual occurrence or crisis situation within 24 hours of the event
  • Other job duties as assigned by the supervisor
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 6 per week
