QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Social Services (preferred); diploma in Social Services (asset)
  • A minimum of five years’ direct experience working with families
  • A minimum of two years’ direct experience working in under supported communities
  • A minimum of two years’ experience supervising and mentoring others.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings as required by program needs.
  • Have an understanding of economic, social, and structural inequalities, such as poverty, discrimination, and social exclusion
  • Resourceful in finding and engaging with new program and service collaborations and partnerships
  • Skilled in risk assessments; analyzing situations and adopting effective course of action
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Knowledge of neurodiversity and toxic stress
  • Knowledge of current and emerging needs within communities served
  • Proven ability to form relationships with community members, balancing boundaries and an approachable presence
  • Ability to provide encouragement and support to others with patience, understanding, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Have working knowledge and practice of attachment theory, harm reduction, recovery approach, strengths based and person centered approaches
  • Knowledge of volunteer recruitment and sustainability in volunteer enrollment

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and evaluate programs and services that; address community members’ basic needs, provide information and resources, opportunities for connection, incorporate capacity-building and a range of education and training opportunities.
  • Perform crisis support and crisis prevention by addressing addictions, mental health, family violence, food security etc.
  • Recognize and be prepared to provide different levels of support depending on each person’s needs.
  • Barriers to accessing programs and services are identified and addressed with an equitable lens
  • Programs and services are provided with humility in a holistic, dignified, and respectful manner and are culturally sensitive.
  • Build trusting, responsive relationships with community members while consistently providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive space
  • Proposing innovative programs and ideas to the leadership team, which may include applying for grants less than $5,000, requests for donations and completing related reporting.
  • Participate in program development, application, evaluation, and debriefing continuous improvement according to policies, best practices, expectations, standards and guidelines.
  • Engage and encourage community members to participate in Community Advisory meetings and host meetings regularly and where possible.
  • Provide knowledge of and guidance to navigate systems (e.g. legal, educational, CFS, childcare, physical and mental healthcare, etc.)
  • Provide leadership, oversight and support to the Pathways Program (pre-employment and employment opportunities); including creating volunteer opportunities, volunteer recruitment, scheduling, on site training, and mentoring.
  • Supervise Community Helpers by delegating work, supporting the development of their skill set, monitoring and evaluating their quality of work.
  • Perform administrative duties including maintaining the Momentum database, create and distribute newsletters and flyers, create program reports as needed, prepare/maintain monthly financial reports and maintain social media pages.
  • Undertake other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor.
