Job Title: Family Engagement & Outreach Specialist
Location: Division Annex and/or Assigned School
Reports to: Supervisor of Strategic Initiatives
FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY:

The Family Engagement and Outreach Specialist plays a pivotal role in fostering meaningful partnerships between families, schools, and the broader community. This outreach position is dedicated to enhancing student achievement by promoting inclusive family engagement, coordinating outreach efforts, and connecting families with essential resources and services.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trusting relationships with families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and implement effective family engagement strategies that support student learning and well-being. Must be able to collaborate effectively with school personnel, community partners, and interdisciplinary teams to identify needs and connect families to appropriate resources and services. Ability to collect, interpret, and apply information related to student and family circumstances, including barriers to engagement, to inform outreach approaches and support plans. Requires the ability to plan, organize, and facilitate events and workshops; utilize technology for communication and data tracking; and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and deadlines. Must be able to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate cultural competence in all interactions. Access to reliable transportation is required for school meetings and community outreach activities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with relevant work experience in education, child development, mental health or other appropriate human services field is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in family engagement, community outreach, and program development both within schools and the broader community.
  • Skilled in creating initiatives that strengthen school-family partnerships and improve student outcomes, while collaborating with schools, families, and community organizations.
  • Experience in leading events, managing volunteers, and implementing data-driven programs is essential.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to effectively serve diverse communities.
  • Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the district for school visits and community meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and support programs that encourage active family participation in students’ academic and social development.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and events aimed at educating families about school processes, student support strategies, and available resources.
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations, faith-based groups, and local businesses to support family needs and enhance student learning opportunities.
  • Manage and disseminate information about learning and school, and community resources.
  • Develop and distribute multilingual communication materials, such as newsletters and flyers, to keep families informed and engaged.
  • Serve as the lead for other ambassadors and volunteers who participate in opportunities and events organized by the Family and Community Engagement team
  • Serve as the part-time Welcome Center registrar in summer as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to items related to family engagement activities, participation metrics, case records, and feedback to inform continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serve on school-based, division-wide, and community teams and committees to advocate for and contribute to strategies that promote student and family success.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
