SCOPE OF POSITION: The Family Services Worker must keep accurate and up to date confidential files on each child and families enrolled in the Standing Rock 0-5 program.  The Family Service Worker must recruit children and families for the Head Start program. SUPERVISION:  The Family Service Worker will work under the direct supervision of the Family & Community Partnership Manager, who will provide guidance, direction and conduct performance evaluations.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: A.        COORDINATION: 1. Recruit 0-5 children, set up files and enter all data into the Head Start computers. 2. Keep accurate and up to date confidential records of home visits, agency contacts, referrals and follow-up services. 3. Be familiar with all agencies and resources in the area for referrals. 4. Submit monthly reports to their supervisor as well as quarterly and annual program reports, as required, to the Head Start Director. 5. Attend all center staff and Family Service Worker staff meetings and set up Parent training sessions on a monthly basis and as required. 6. Attend appropriate related workshops. 7. Participate in the collection of data and analysis of the Community Needs Assessment. 8. Assists the Health Coordinator with the Health Advisory Board meetings. 9. Cooperate with all component staff in developing parent participation in the center's program and all related activities such as parent training. Attend Parent meetings. 10. Must complete Family Partnership Agreements with each enrolled family in the center base. 11. Must prepare a list of all enrolled children and their age for the health screenings; staff to conduct screenings on a timely basis. 12. Must be involved in coordinating transitions to local kindergartens schools. 13. Must assist in the classroom as needed in case of limited staff. 14. Must attend monthly parent meetings and assist in coordinating the preparation of the meeting. B.        SOCIAL SERVICES: 1. Will gain knowledge of the Standing Rock 0-5 program, demonstrating good public relations with parents and the communities. 2. Help encourage, motivate and assist these families in their own efforts to improve the condition and the quality of family life. 3. Assist in providing background information on the family and its situation to broaden the centers understanding of individual needs and/or problems of children. 4. Assist families and resources in the area for referrals. 5. Provide support services in child abuse and neglect care. C.        HEALTH/MEDICAL/DENTAL 1. Work with IHS and other health agencies and parents to ensure that all Head Start children receive medical/dental screening and physical examinations as promptly as possible and any follow-ups, providing transportation when necessary. 2. Keep all children's records up to date this includes immunizations, and any health services needed and received. 3. Work closely with center staff in handling health problems. 4. Coordinate efforts with state/county Medicaid personnel to assess all eligible children ages 0-5, in the area served with follow-ups to assure that services are provided maintaining records. 5. Will work with health program on appointments for physicals, dentals, or other referrals, providing transportation when necessary. D.        SKILLS 1. Must be resourceful, able to function independently and have the ability to work with both children and adults. 2. Must be able to communicate effectively to parents, staff and other agencies any information concerning children or families. 3. Must have computer skills.   E.         QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Four-year college degree in social work or a two-year degree in Human Services and two years of experience in working in the social service area. 2. Should have some administrative skills (be able to work with and understand the problems of low-income families. 3. Have computer knowledge in Word, Excel and office to maintain data.  4. Must be willing to participate in a new certification program for family services workers when implemented. 5. Applicant must submit at least three (3) references, which includes former employers and personal acquaintances.  Contacts must relate to the potential employees' character, emotional stability and competence.  References must be in the form of written letter or a documented conversation and must be in the director's possession before interviews. 6. The Head Start Director, Policy Council and Tribal Interview panel will interview applicants meeting the requirements. F.         JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Have an annual physical examination including TB skin test or x-ray & up to date immunizations. 2. Follow program Policies on time and attendance. 3. Must complete CPR and First Aide training within 90 days after hire and update as required. 4. Must be able to work independently. 5. Must have vehicle and, valid drivers' license and appropriate insurance and be willing to travel to Head Start centers and communities, sometimes in the evening. 6. Must sign confidentiality agreement. 7. Applicant must sign the necessary paperwork to permit a background check at the tribal level and state level; that applicant must never have been convicted of child abuse/neglect or any violent crimes.   NOTICE: SELECTED CANDIDATE(S) FOR STANDING ROCK SIOUX TRIBE POSITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING.
