Family Services Screener
Must reside in Houston, TX
Job Summary:
The Family Services Screener will review the donor chart to determine suitability in a timely and appropriate manner.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Respond immediately to the established triage system and interact professionally with the technical team as well as other agencies including hospitals, hospices, Medical Examiner’s Office, mortuaries, partner organizations, and external contract organizations.
  • Screen possible donors to establish potential suitability for donation in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Medical knowledge preferred to learn and identify donor related contraindications as well as to identify cases that meet outlined criteria for research donation.
  • Import cases to the appropriate electronic charting system.
  • Case coordination after consent.
  • Track case hold and release of donors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Must follow state and federal regulations as well as San Diego Eye Banks policies.

Work Environment:

  • This position is clerical and home-based. Training is hybrid. The schedule and hours are subject to change.
  • Regulations and workflows are subject to change. The individual must be comfortable adapting to continual changes in department processes.

Qualifications:

  • Must have home high speed internet.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the required background check(s).
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Must have ethical business practices.
  • Must be fluent in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to follow donor eligibility requirements.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, maintaining orderly work habits, while collecting and processing a high volume of detailed, confidential, time-sensitive information.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must adhere to the San Diego Eye Bank’s policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to operate computer equipment requiring repetitive hand and wrist movement and coordination, including use of a keyboard and mouse.

Rate: $18.00 per hour.
Schedule: Since we’re a 24/7 organization, the schedule varies. The individual needs to have a flexible schedule.
