Description An Equal Opportunity Employer POSITION: Family Support Specialist REPORTS TO: Early Childhood Services Director SALARY: As per agency salary schedule FLSA: Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY: The Family Support Specialist will deliver essential family support services within clients’ homes. Follow evidence-based Parents as Teachers model to educate and support families with environmental, financial, developmental, and health & safety concerns. This role involves meticulous record-keeping, record-keeping, report completion, and efficient handling of information ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Address family and client inquiries regarding information and referrals. Establish rapport and cultivate trust with individuals and families from all backgrounds Grasp the complexities of children, individuals, and family behavior Guide families on child development milestones, effective parenting strategies, and fostering positive personal growth. Identify strengths and recognize problems related to the family’s needs and assist families with setting goals. Access family safety and development to facilitate referrals to community resources. Schedule and provide in home family support services to families. Documenting in designated data system regarding services and assessments. Completing required Program service forms with families. Providing developmental activities, information and screening to families. Connecting and supporting families to self-identified resources. Following confidentiality with regards to family information and documentation. Completion of the Iowa Family Support Certification Exam. Support the Program Director with recruitment efforts for the Parent Advisory Council. Provide PAT Groups with the support of other Family Support Workers and the Program Director. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as information sources concerning program. Fill in for other staff members when necessary. Input, access and retrieve computer data for programmatic needs. Assist with reports and statistics. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years’ experience in related field and/or an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (ex. Human services or education). Must demonstrate professional development competency within the first six months of employment. Training and competence in understanding and responding to risk factors affecting children’s social and emotional competence. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and organizational skills. Knowledge of community resources and ability to access these resources. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work as a team member to accomplish goals for effective program coordination and implementation. Ability to travel as required, viable means of transportation, and evidence of insurability. Ability to perform medium heavy physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion, up to 20-30 pounds frequently, and up to 5-10 pounds constantly, performing such as activities as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping, including some repetitive motion.
