The service operates across 10 districts and Barnardo’s directly manages 4 of those districts. This commissioned service is designed for children and their parents/ carers from shortly before birth up to the age of five and provides accessible, community-based services for families with pre-school children through Family Hubs/Children’s Centres, their own homes and a number of other community venues.
We are looking to recruit 2 full time Family Support Workers at our Fox Hollies Children’s Centre/Yardley Family Hub in Acocks Green, Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a passionate and experienced team who’s aim is to empower families with new knowledge and skills, whilst also building resilience and providing essential emotional and practical support facilitated by 1:1 and group work delivery.

You will be required to initiate Early Help Assessments to identify the family’s targeted needs, provide guidance and advice based on those needs and refer families to specialist and other services when appropriate with consent, in accordance with required protocols. You will undertake multi agency work, liaising with other organisations and stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families. You will also provide a Family Support Drop In/Duty service on a rota basis enabling families to access immediate support.
You should have/will have proven knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality/GDPR requirements. You must have excellent record keeping skills and be proficient in the use of IT packages including databases and MS applications.
This role will require you to travel independently across the locality therefore you must be flexible and adaptable, particularly in relation to working hours and location.
When completing your application please refer to your skills knowledge and experience in relation to the Person Specification, Job Description and Job Addendum. This should be done with an understanding of the context of the service described.

Pay & Reward Framework
We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo’s values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.
For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo’s and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.
Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo’s pay framework can be found upon application.
