Description:

Reporting to the VP, Farming Operations, the Farm Manager will provide expertise and oversee the management of successfully growing potatoes for our customers’ demands.
Our Juniper Farm has 2 components which include both Greenhouse and Field operations. Greenhouse duties include overseeing mini tuber production using practices that produce high yields and top quality tubers. Field operations all functions that produce disease free and virus free seed potatoes. In both operations, this includes directing all daily operations which covers but is not limited to: Planting, Growing, Harvesting and Storing.

The Farm Manager’s expertise will be utilized to attain the highest possible yields, quality, and profitability from farm operations. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, “Can Do” attitude and the ability to adapt to a fast paced, dynamic work environment where safety, quality and people are our top priorities.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to the farm supervisory staff
  • Manage entire farm operation including budgeting and profitability of the farm
  • Manage and drive employee safety programs in liaison with Health, Safety & Environment specialist
  • Analyze historical farm data and interpret for long term decision making
  • Adopt and implement agricultural technology that provides efficiency in operations
  • Adhere to all Agricultural Sustainability initiatives for customer needs
  • Produce the highest quality seed potatoes free of disease and viruses
  • Identify/implement crop management practices to enhance quality of production and evaluate current an new production practices
  • Scale all operations of the business to ensure the proper utilization of capital/human resources
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to determine proper variety mix to meet future business demands
  • Oversee annual capitol purchases of equipment with a focus on driving costs out of the business and increasing efficiencies
  • Cultivate positive relationships with our suppliers, customers, and potato industry partners in the agricultural community
  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture and/or Business is preferred
  • 2+ years Farm Management experience. Direct experience with potatoes is strongly preferred; experience with row crop(s) preferred.
  • 2+ years Greenhouse operational experience
  • Experience preparing and managing budgets
  • Excellent people management & leadership experience
  • Sustainable fertility management
  • Full understanding of disease, and pest management required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ensure proper record keeping, a thorough understanding of the CFIA application process, and 100% compliance to variety purity
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with a strong focus on program improvement
  • Negotiation and business skills including the ability deal with landowners
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint
