Overview Of Role
We have an exciting opening for a Farm Manager to join us as a key member of the Farm and Estates managing team.
Do you have a passion for the progression of sustainable farming methods and the science surrounding it?

If so this unique role could be for you. The successful applicant will be:

  • Ambitious
  • Highly organised
  • Proven ability to lead the existing arable team
  • Have the aptitude to liaise with science and research teams to achieve successful completion of experimental protocols.
  • Be able to to think outside the box

Do you have:

  • Extensive practical agricultural skills
  • An awareness of modern agricultural rotations, systems and process
  • The skills and knowledge in the areas of tractor and telehandler driving, machinery operation and basic machinery maintenance.
  • Grain store management will also be a key aspect of this role.
  • Be forward thinking and keen to explore new methods and technologies to produce crops of a high standard.

This role will have significant involvement with Rothamsted new digital initiative so you will also have:

  • Excellent IT skills
  • Experience working with computer-based record keeping systems
  • An understanding of GPS guidance systems and mapping software would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to put the cutting-edge science Rothamsted is famous for into practice, on the farm. At the same time, using the wealth of knowledge available within the institute to improve current practices.
Some practical experience working on agricultural field trials is desirable, but not essential for this role, as the Farm Manager works closely with the Field Trials manager to ensure field trials are delivered to high standards and strict experimental protocols are always being adhered to.
The role is a full time predominantly Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week for a 3 year fixed term period. Ability to work flexibly over busy seasonal periods is expected. Salary up to £41,438 depending on experience.
Interview dates scheduled for mid June 2025. Early application is recommended, as vacancy may close earlier if preferred candidate is found.
