Responsibilities

THE ROLE ITSELF?

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Effective Budget Management with a strong focus on labour costs vs throughput across key areas of the operation e.g. Weeding, Harvesting, Farming activities.
  • Work closely with direct reports to ensure cost efficiency is achieved across all areas.
  • Ensure Weeding Supervisors manage teams appropriately with a focus on; priority of work scheduled, cost effectiveness of work performed and ongoing performance management of workers.
  • Ensure accurate crop forecasting for availability of harvest and communicate effectively with packing shed and sales staff
  • Ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of crop management strategies regarding vigour, moisture, weed & pest controls, soil nutrition and overall crop health
  • Ensure the effective development and implementation of planting schedules on a yearly/monthly/weekly basis
  • Ensure effective planning and scheduling of fertilization, planting and irrigation to achieve maximum quality and yield of crops
  • Identify, implement and monitor new product lines for production. Including analysis of related costs and farming techniques against sales targets.
  • Chair weekly farm operations meetings with key staff
  • Recruit, train and mentor key staff
  • Ensure that OH&S obligations are implemented and adhered to by team members

WHAT KIND OF PERSON WILL FIT THE ROLE?

The perfect person for this role will have qualifications in either ag science, logistics or business management, as well as proven experience in irrigation, cropping, machinery or farm management. As you will be working as part of an established management team, it is extremely important that you have an ability to communicate, collaborate and lead.
