JOB DESCRIPTION
Love being technical but have a strong visual creative side? Interested in visualization and presentation of complex engineering and weapon system capabilities to a range of audiences? If so, Mission Assessments may have a key role for you!
BAE Systems’ Mission Assessments (MA) organization is revolutionizing how mission-level operational analysis is planned, executed, and delivered. The Mission Assessments organization was created to address the rapidly increasing demand for mission-level operational analysis. Our mission is to achieve excellence in multidomain (MDO), systems-of-systems (SoS) Mission Assessments and effectively communicate the value of BAE Systems products to customers, DoD leadership and the warfighter. To do this we must bring together models of advanced technologies, weapons, platforms, and threats in relevant mission simulations – and then apply our deep subject matter expertise and experience to deliver assessments that can change the world.
Mission Assessments has a need for a creative engineer skilled in software development, programming, and interfacing with complex data and information. This Mission Assessment SW Engineer will support the Mission Assessments team in two capacities: (1) support software development activities to modify, adapt, interface tools to accomplish the MA mission and (2) be the engineering lead translating complex technical mission data to immersive or easy to understand technical video clips. As a SW Engineer, you will be expected to function in a dynamic environment supporting multiple active studies and visualization development for the final products to be presented to BAEs most important customers.
An emphasis of this position will be 3D modeling and animation. These animations will be “technically accurate”, and the data will be extracted from our MA tool sets, BAE product models, or from Digital Engineering tools. These animations are needed to clearly present very complex technical data so customers can understand these complex capabilities seamlessly. The creative component has additional upside when interacting with higher-level USG officials as immersive and compelling video products can be very memorable and leave a very positive impression regarding BAE Systems’ products. To create these immersive clips, an individual may need to work with and interface with industry standard software packages as needed to provide the best possible products on time (MATLAB, Python visualization libraries, System Tool Kit, Blender, Maya, 3DS Max, Unreal Engine, plus others). Formal training is desired on the professional 3D animation software but not required – but an interest in learning and continual improvement is a must to excel in this position!
Software Development will support a range of modeling and ops analysis software used by BAE to include AFSIM, DIADS, NG3S, and other wargaming and mission level simulation environments. Supporting development of “Effects Based Models” will be an emphasis where you will be working with Product Line engineers to translate the behavior of their high-fidelity models into more efficient, high-level “effects-based models” appropriate for 1000s of Monte Carlo run cycles.
Based on multiple factors, remote work may be a possibility for this position, at the discretion of the business.
