JOB SUMMARY

Are you inspired by cutting-edge aerospace engineering, with an aspiration to work upon the delivery of the UK’s Sixth-Generation Combat Air capability, within the one of Defence’s most complex multi-national engineering programmes? If so, we are seeking a Power and Propulsion Systems Engineer within the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) Engineering Delivery Team.
You will be responsible for leading certification, airworthiness assurance, and integration engineering activities in support of Power and Propulsion Systems development and Demonstrator platform technology initiatives. This rewarding role involves symbiotic teamwork with Tri-National Governments and other UK MOD departments, leading regular engagements with Industry counterparts, enabling rapid decision making in a high-trust collegiate environment.
As a FCAS Delivery Team Engineer, you will use your exceptional communication and influencing skills to build strong working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, enabling unimpeded information flow and clear decision making in a dynamic and evolving programme.
You will provide expert advice and guidance to ensure that Industry proposals and engineering solutions deliver an airworthy and certifiable design that is fit for purpose. The role requires a consistently robust application of airworthiness principles and certification specifications through established policies, processes, tools and techniques throughout the early phases of platform development.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As one of our FCAS Delivery Team Engineers you will work to establish, implement, and maintain appropriate airworthiness management through the application of DE&S Engineering policy and best practice, UK MAA Regulation and recognised certification specifications. Your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • You will be accountable to the Type Airworthiness Authority/Chief Engineer as systems subject matter expert and delegated airworthiness authority representative in Tri-National Government and Industry engagements.
  • Owning and managing the Electrical Power Generation, Thermal Management System, Fuel System, and Propulsion System inputs to the FCAS Core Platform Type Certification Basis as Certification Panel Lead for Tri-National Government.
  • Identifying and analysing hazards and contributing to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed.
  • Working with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK Legislation and Regulations, MOD and DE&S Policy.
  • Providing informed airworthiness advice to decision makers through Working Groups and Certification Panels.
  • Producing, reviewing, endorsing, and making recommendations on acceptance of airworthiness artefacts.
  • Overseeing the development of solutions to System Requirements and ensuring airworthiness, certification, and through life considerations are captured and the managed.
  • Developing, managing, and maintaining effective airworthiness management systems.
  • Developing and maintaining programme airworthiness assurance plans, monitoring compliance, and ensuring that airworthiness assurance evidence is gathered, assessed, and decisions recorded appropriately.
