We have an exciting opportunity for a FDVA Assessment Specialist to join our residential Breathing Space Men’s Behaviour Change Program, working to make a positive change in the FDVA sector. Breathing Space program The Breathing Space program is a specifically designed program delivered to men who choose to use violence and abuse in their relationships with partners(s) or family members. The program is delivered in a secure and supportive therapeutic setting and provides educational group work, informal counselling, individual case management and advocacy. This approach supports victim survivors, including children, to remain in their homes and in connection with their support networks, to maximise their safety. The Role The FDVA Assessment Specialist conducts comprehensive screening, triage, and risk and needs assessments for all incoming referrals to the Communicare Breathing Space (CBS) program. This role proactively engages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure referral and information management systems are maintained to a high standard of accuracy and quality. This position will be offered located in Maylands on a permanent full-time basis working 76 hours per fortnight. Occasional travel may be required for this position to conduct face to face assessments in prisons. About You Ideally, you are passionate about keeping women and children safe from family and domestic violence. You have a strong understanding of managing emotional distress in clients and bring a solid, practice‑based approach to risk assessment and risk management. You are confident engaging with individuals experiencing complexity and crisis, and you value working collaboratively to deliver safe, accountable and high‑quality responses within the FDVA sector. Additionally, you will have: Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology, and/or significant experience working in the Family and Domestic Violence and Abuse (FDVA) sector. Demonstrated experience in intake, screening, triage and comprehensive FDVA risk and needs assessments, including safety planning. Strong understanding of FDVA dynamics, including working with men who use violence and the impacts on women and children. Demonstrated ability to manage crisis, emotional distress and challenging behaviours using trauma‑informed and risk‑aware practice. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including maintaining accurate, high‑quality information and referral processes. Unrestricted drivers’ licence, Satisfactory Police clearance, Working With Children Check, Willingness to obtain a Department of Justice Clearance if required.
