As the Engineering and Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll oversee a skilled team of Marine engineers and maintenance staff maintaining large motor ferry vessels, landings, and shore facilities—ensuring 24/7 operational readiness. Oversee the upkeep and readiness of large motor ferry vessels, landings, docks, and shore-based systems. Position Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5 years in marine engineering operations. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have required US Coast Guard (USCG) certifications and documents appropriate for the position and vessel being operated.
  • Must have or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities
  • Approves vessel shipyard availability work requests and bid specifications, prioritizes vessel sequence and approves advance preparations of owner-furnished equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with basic principles of sound engineering practices and procedures.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with unit standard operating procedures, manufacturer’s technical and instruction manuals, U. S. Coast Guard requirements, and American Bureau of Shipping standards.
  • Forecasts requirements and ensures the availability of adequate supplies, materials, and equipment necessary for the operation and repair of large motor ferry vessels, shore facilities systems, and other equipment.
  • Monitors safety practices by inspecting vessels, shore facilities, equipment, and work areas, identifying hazards and ways to correct them, and devising methods to improve safe working conditions and promote on-the-spot corrections.
  • Monitors the performance of special marine unit contracts for services, annual dredging; vessel shipyard availability; major facility, landing, and workdock renovations; new construction projects for facilities and replacement ferry vessels.
  • Performs as the owner’s representative for progressing shipyard work and approves scheduling or required American Bureau of Shipping and U. S. Coast Guard inspections and dock and sea trials.
  • Reports to the supervisor on matters affecting the operational capability of the unit, including engineering, maintenance, or repair requirements of concern.
  • Serves as unit monitor for compliance with American Bureau of Shipping and U. S. Coast Guard requirements for the safe and efficient operation and certification of large motor ferry vessels.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
