nLIGHT’s Fiber Division is a leading provider of specialty optical fibers. Our products are sold mainly throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

FIBER APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

We are looking for a proactive, motivated Fiber Applications Engineer to strengthen our sales team at nLIGHT’s site in Lohja, Finland. You will take a key role in technical support of our customers from academy, research and development and industrial sectors and help to drive development and testing of our innovative fiber products.

Your tasks:

  • Be a key technical contact for our worldwide customers and support in problem solving, providing suitable solutions and developing sustainable cooperations.
  • Design and build optical setups (fiber amplifiers and fiber lasers) for fiber testing, product demonstrations and collection of application data.
  • Active role in updating and developing products (active (Yb, Er, Tm, ..) and passive laser fibers)
  • Interact between customers and internal stakeholders, including engineering, R&D, quality and production
  • Prepare and deliver product presentations to customers
  • Support RFQ responses together with the Sales Manager
  • Identify market trends and new applications
  • Short and occasional trips within Europe, USA and Asia possible to meet clients and attend exhibitions

Requirements:

  • Strong customer-oriented mindset and motivated to work proactively with customers on a daily basis
  • Good understanding of fiber optics and laser physics
  • Hands-on experience working with optical fibers, optics, fiber lasers and/or lasers in a laboratory environment
  • Experience in designing, building, testing and characterizing optical fiber amplifiers or (fiber) lasers
  • MSc or PhD in Engineering, Physics or other relevant field
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills paired with good hands-on and laboratory skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Team-player with efficient, independent work attitude
  • Fluent language skills in Finnish and English (verbal and written)
  • Experience with programming and simulations a plus.
  • Sales experience a plus

The position is permanent with 37,5h work hours per week (Monday to Friday) in a flexible working time arrangement. It is possible to partly work remote. The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is selected and can start on 01.04.2025 or earlier as agreed on.
