OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) Assembly Technician to join our manufacturing and production team. This position involves precise assembly, testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of fiber optic gyroscopes and related components in a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision electro-optical or fiber optic assembly, excellent manual dexterity, and a commitment to producing high-quality devices for use in aerospace, defense, and navigation systems.

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical certificate or associate degree in electronics, optics, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in optical or electronic assembly, preferably in a cleanroom or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with fiber optic handling, fusion splicing, and fiber coil winding is a strong plus.
  • Proficient with hand tools, microscopes, alignment jigs, and inspection equipment.
  • Good understanding of electro-mechanical systems and basic electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Capable of working independently or in a team with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a US Citizen

Responsibilities
  • Assemble fiber optic gyroscopes (FOGs) and related subassemblies according to detailed work instructions, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Handle and splice optical fibers using fusion splicers and inspect quality under microscopes.
  • Install and align optical components, lenses, coils, and other precision parts using specialized tools and fixtures.
  • Perform bonding, soldering, and epoxy application under microscope as required.
  • Conduct initial electrical and optical testing and calibration of completed assemblies.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and test results in manufacturing travelers or databases.
  • Troubleshoot and repair defective units by identifying root causes and performing corrective actions.
  • Follow cleanroom protocols and work in ESD-controlled areas to prevent contamination and electrostatic damage.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve assembly processes and product reliability.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and company policies and procedures.
