Job Title: Fiber Splicing Technician
Classification: Non-exempt, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for reviewing documentation, creating a plan, and splicing fiber according to approved splice drawings while following fiber management inside splice cases, making needed changes and documenting test results using software/databases as needed.

  • Ability to evaluate situations and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to handle delicate fibers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be willing to reside near or commute to a Joink office (Currently within Illinois: Taylorville, Hillsboro; Indiana: Terre Haute)
  • Candidates which have the following will have priority:
    o Functioning knowledge or experience of fiber optic splicing, OTDR testing and troubleshooting fiber optic.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Reviews approved splice documentation and searches records / previous splicing or construction at that location to create plan prior to splice event.
2. Splice fiber(s) according to approved splice drawings (as splicing is done color-to-color, the ability to distinguish matching fibers is required). Understands and follows fiber management inside splice cases.
3. Makes needed changes and documents test results.
4. Splicing and testing of pre-connectorized multi-port services terminals, when applicable.
5. Use OTDR to test fiber paths and saves/documents results.
6. Enter data on work completed into software/databases as needed.
7. Ability to utilize software for scheduling, download of documents and upload of details.
8. Understands cable placement process and how it affects splicing.
9. Maintains all Splicing equipment and ability to troubleshoot repair in the field if needed.
10. Responsible for stocking inventory for truck to support splice events and assist in maintaining inventory of unique tools and supplies.
11. Driving duties include conveying materials, equipment, and staff to and from work sites and ability to meet necessary FMCSA requirements (includes passing the DOT physical).
