Position Overview
The Field and Restoration Technician supports a diverse range of agricultural, habitat restoration, and land stewardship activities at The Maples Farm. This role works closely with the Carbon Farm Manager and other team members to manage hedgerows, implement weed and irrigation management strategies, maintain diversified fruit and vegetable plots, and contribute to habitat restoration projects. Responsibilities include assisting with greenhouse production, field preparation, planting, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and record keeping, as well as supporting the farm’s Carbon Farm Plan and volunteer engagement efforts. The position requires a mix of independent work and teamwork, performing physically demanding tasks in varied weather conditions, and contributing to both production agriculture and conservation-focused initiatives.

Job Details

  • Location: Location: On-site in Woodland, CA
  • Classification: Non-exempt, Full-time
  • Salary Range: $23.00 - $32.00/hour DOE.

Qualifications

The Field and Restoration Technician should have experience and passion for sustainable agriculture and habitat restoration, with the ability to perform physically demanding work in varied weather conditions. They should bring attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in tasks such as planting, irrigation, and record keeping. Self-motivated and adaptable. The Field and Restoration Technician must work effectively both independently and in a team, taking on diverse responsibilities across farming, restoration, and volunteer engagement.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, ecology, horticulture and agronomy, environmental and plan science or some related field; or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of farming experience, either as an apprentice, inter or farm crew member.
  • Basic computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suite, Google G Suite, web browsers, and email.
  • Experience and ability to work independently out in the field and conduct physically demanding work in a variety of weather condition, including rain and heat.
  • Experience and skills to work independently or within a team setting as situation requires.
  • Ability to lift 25-50 lbs. and be on their feet for 8hrs a day.
  • Valid CA driver’s license required to operate farm trucks and other farm vehicles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS:

  • Experience with habitat restoration; especially working with hedgerows and California native plants and grasses.
  • Experience putting implements on/off a tractor, using a PTO and front loader.
  • Experience conducting field research activities such as sampling, data collection and recording.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and independently.
  • Attention to detail for record keeping, planting, pruning, irrigation setup, and so much more.
