JOB DESCRIPTION

We engineer our farms to operate as advanced manufacturing lines. As a Field Engineer / Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for assembling, testing, and improving the systems that drive our automated indoor farms. You’ll work hands-on with cutting-edge machinery, collaborating with our engineering and farming teams to ensure reliable and efficient operation across all of our facilities.
This is a great opportunity for a mechanically inclined early-career engineer who loves to build, troubleshoot, and improve physical systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 1–3 years of hands-on engineering experience
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
  • Strong mechanical aptitude—comfortable with tools, machinery, and assembly
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specs
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Organized and dependable, with a willingness to get your hands dirty
Responsibilities

You will help install, test, and maintain the equipment that grows and processes food at scale. You will work on-site at our flagship farm in Manassas, VA and assist with the deployment of new systems at future facilities.

On a typical day, you will:

  • Assemble and test mechanical and electromechanical systems
  • Work with mechanical and software engineers to build and validate new machine designs
  • Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance on farm machinery
  • Troubleshoot issues on the floor and implement long-term fixes
  • Read and interpret CAD drawings, BOMs, and electrical schematics
  • Support system rollouts, retrofits, and upgrades across the farm
  • Provide feedback to improve system design and manufacturing processes
  • Document issues and improvements to close the loop between design and operations
