ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated Field Scientist / Field Geologist to support environmental remediation projects throughout New Mexico’s oilfield regions. Based in Carlsbad, this role is field-focused and central to the investigation and cleanup of soil and groundwater contamination. You will apply technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and field leadership to ensure compliance with New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) requirements while contributing to environmental restoration efforts that matter to both the community and industry. This is a great opportunity for someone to get their foot in the door and grow within the environmental consulting industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct field investigations including soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor sampling in accordance with NMED/EPA standards.
  • Oversee remediation activities including excavation monitoring, confirmatory sampling, and adaptive in-field decision-making.
  • Supervise drilling operations (direct-push, auger, and monitoring well installations) and ensure proper chain-of-custody and documentation.
  • Lead environmental site assessments (Phase I & II ESAs), spill response, and post-cleanup verification.
  • Operate field instruments such as PID/FID meters, water-quality probes, GPS units, and GIS software.
  • Prepare accurate daily field logs, sampling documentation, and regulatory-ready reports.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, drilling crews, clients, and project managers to ensure smooth field operations and effective remediation strategies.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety plans (HAZWOPER, HASP) in active oilfield environments.
