JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Field Operations Supervisor, the Field Operations Lead is responsible for supporting field operations at the Galore Creek Project in northwest British Columbia. In doing so, this outstanding role will supervise mobile equipment operators, camp infrastructure and equipment maintenance personnel and general labourers! The successful candidate will further support other field operations tasks related to safe and efficient day-to-day operations by GCMC policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
Field operations activities under the lead’s responsibility will primarily be conducted at two remote camps: one road-accessible camp (98-person capacity) and one helicopter-supported camp (160-person capacity). These activities may include road and bridge maintenance, mobile equipment and infrastructure maintenance, and supporting environmental and technical project studies.
This outstanding position will be based at the Galore Creek project site on a 15 on/13 off rotational basis, inclusive of travel! This rotation is subject to change as the project requires. The start date for this role is anticipated to be the end of May or early June 2025, and the end date will be approximately October 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of operational experience of growing responsibility, preferably in mining, construction, and/or forestry.

  • Must hold or be capable of acquiring a Mines Supervisory Certificate.

  • A valid non-restricted Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Experience directing and supervising mobile equipment.
  • Experience in camp maintenance and construction is an asset.
  • The ability to operate heavy equipment (backhoes, bulldozers, rock trucks, loaders, and graders) to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock gravel or other materials during construction safely and efficiently is an asset.
  • Capacity to load/unload cargo using safe rigging practices and machinery.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of software is a plus.
  • Experience working with tablets for asset management and data collection is an asset.
  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Hourly Range: $40 - $80
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.

  • Assist the Field Operations Supervisor in planning and driving site-sustaining activities while maintaining the tracking, documentation, and reporting on the progress of activities.

  • Lead the daily field-level risk assessments, reporting all safety incidents and near-misses to onsite safety staff.
  • Provide direction for safe and effective maintenance of mobile and support equipment.
  • Ensure that all field operations, project personnel and contractors adhere to site standard operating procedures and conform to all permits and regulations.
  • Supervise labour crews and trades in the monitoring, inspection and directing of aspects not limited to: camp maintenance, manual brushing, waste management, spill cleanup, bear fence maintenance, and environmental support.
  • Oversee heavy equipment operations, inclusive of earthworks, road maintenance, culvert maintenance, bulk fuel farm maintenance, mobile equipment support and infrastructure repairs.
  • Participate in project management meetings and lead daily toolbox meetings.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership for equipment operators and labour crews. Directly supervise contractors when required.
  • Identify and correct unsafe work or actions.
  • Participate in the GCMC Health and Safety program (including SOP and JSA development, tailgate safety meetings and audits).
  • Fulfil the daily and weekly reporting of site activities.
  • Carry out required inspections for camp, mobile equipment, roads, and bridges.
  • Record status and maintenance records of assets.
  • Assist in year-end reporting.
