POSITION SUMMARY:

The Field Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day execution of field services across a portfolio of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this role will serve as a key link between corporate leadership and regional field teams, ensuring safety, quality, and performance standards are consistently met across all active sites.
The ideal candidate is an experienced field leader with a strong technical background in solar or energy infrastructure, capable of managing technicians, subcontractors, scheduling, and operational readiness at scale.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5–8 years of experience in solar, BESS, or related energy field operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, solar O&M, testing procedures, and commissioning best practices.
  • Experience managing field crews and third-party subcontractors across multiple job sites.
  • Knowledge of safety compliance requirements and industry standards for high-voltage work.
  • Proficiency with mobile work management tools, SCADA platforms, CMMS, and reporting systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (up to 90%) to job sites across assigned regions.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification required (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Responsibilities
  • Team Oversight: Supervise and support field technicians, regional leads, and subcontractors across assigned territories. Provide regular coaching and ensure adherence to Virtus standards.
  • Work Planning & Execution: Coordinate daily field schedules for preventive maintenance, corrective work, commissioning, troubleshooting, and inspections.
  • Safety Management: Enforce field safety protocols aligned with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company-specific policies. Lead incident investigations and corrective action follow-ups as needed.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track field KPIs including schedule adherence, quality metrics, technician utilization, and customer feedback. Provide input to performance engineering teams.
  • Workforce Development: Identify training needs, assist in onboarding new field staff, and support implementation of career progression pathways for technicians.
  • Resource & Logistics Coordination: Oversee field tools, vehicles, parts, and safety equipment. Ensure accurate inventory control and deployment.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Ensure timely submission of service reports, photos, field logs, and incident documentation into company systems.
  • Client Support: Serve as a point of contact for escalated site-level issues and assist with walk-throughs, inspections, and customer meetings when needed.
