Job Description
This individual must be team oriented and flexible, and actively seek to assist and learn from their peers. Possesses sound basic communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrates strong interest and eagerness to learn electronic repair troubleshooting methodology. Willingness to work on a range of activities and undertake domestic travel from time to time to assist on jobs and learn. Has a working knowledge of PC applications (MS Word, Excel & Power Point) to provide information summaries as needed.
Assists Field Service Engineers with troubleshooting, servicing, installing (deploying) and repairing either Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) or Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) equipment at customer sites. Assists Field Service Engineers in maintaining the field service log and filing system. Assists with general in-house site requirements and actively seeks out opportunities to learn from and assist Field Service Engineers or other colleagues when not travelling or attending a customer site.
Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities-

  • Assists Field Service Engineers in meeting daily service repair needs and driving customer satisfaction
  • Assists Field Service Engineers with repairs and maintains equipment in the field, also assists with equipment installation
  • Under supervision, documents all inspections, maintenance, repair work and submits paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Under supervision, orders, installs, and returns parts and manages repair parts cycle time
  • Assists Field Service Engineers with ensuring that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated
  • Assists Field Service Engineers in assessing product/equipment performance based on field support data
  • May participate in site surveys, pilot program service activities, attend meetings, and assist in preparing exclusive reports
  • Maintains professional communication proficiency, both oral and written
  • Establishes and maintains a close relationship with Field Service Engineers in order to continuously learn and support the needs of the customer
  • Exercises every available measure to control and minimize costs – Overtime control, flights and travel expenditures, tools and consumables procurement where applicable
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies
  • Performs tasks independently once assessed as competent and safe to do so
  • Other duties as required

The Individual

Skills and Experience-

  • Enrolled in Certificate III in Electrical Machine Repair or an equivalent course aligned to Smiths Detection Australia’s service organisation
  • No experience required. Some previous formal paid or voluntary work experience is desirable
  • Individuals should possess good communication skills and have a strong orientation for customer focus and teamwork. Must be willing & able to travel at short notice. Must be willing and able to be on-call as per the roster
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and accountable individual
  • Clean drivers licence
  • Ability to acquire relevant security clearance and industry related licences when possible/applicable
