Sputtering Components Inc, a member of Buhler Group, is a growing business in Owatonna, Minnesota that has served customers all around the world for over 20 years. We are currently hiring for a highly motivated Field Service Engineer.
Every day, millions of people around the world come into contact with products made using SCI equipment. Our thin film technologies are used in vacuum coating systems to make windows, smartphones, display screens, solar panels, automobile components, decorative hardware and more.
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for assisting customers in day-to-day problems and technical issues on SCI products via phone, email or in person. This person will install SCI products and upgrades for our customers, repair equipment and provide training for customers. The job requires close cooperation with engineering, sales, assembly, and various management staff.

This is where you’ll excel

  • Repair, install, troubleshoot, inspect and modify SCI equipment at customer sites and in-house workshop.
  • Assess customer needs regarding maintenance, spare parts, modernization, and improvement of process.
  • Provide technical support externally and internally.
  • Accurately read blueprints.
  • Develop, organize and provide customer and internal training programs.
  • Update and maintain our CRM system.
  • Create a one-on-one relationship with the customer and be a positive company representative.
  • Special projects such as product development, sales visits to customers/vendors and demonstration of equipment to customers/vendors.
  • Promote Bühler Customer Service and help customers to plan future service.
  • Up to 75% Travel within U.S. & Canada, occasional travel to Mexico, Asia, and Europe.
  • Must arrive at work predictably and promptly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

These are the skills you’ll need

  • Preferred to have knowledge of vacuum coaters.
  • Associates degree in engineering or robotics or related technical degree or equivalent training or experience in a field of technology such as electrical, mechanical, or similar field, previous field service experience is preferred.
  • +3 years of assembly, maintenance and/or repair experience for industrial equipment.
  • Must have the ability to work closely and efficiently with fellow workers and customers.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to multi-task.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make decisions independently, effectively, and creatively within established company guidelines.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and proven troubleshooter.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, problem solve, and give direction regarding problem resolutions for individual and company issues.

Here’s what you’ll earn
This position pays $28.00 - $30.00 per hour based on experience
