JOB DESCRIPTION

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting tasks on field equipment, machinery, and vehicles. This role ensures that all assets are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who excels in independent work, is adaptable to changing field conditions, and maintains a strong focus on safety and quality.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma
  • Technical training or certification in mechanics, diesel technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical repair, preferably in a field-based environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with understanding of internal combustion engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, power tools, and maintenance software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to equipment reliability.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on field equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and condition-based monitoring.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency breakdowns in the field.
  • Maintain accurate service records, logs, and documentation using digital systems or job tickets.
  • Ensure proper use and care of tools, diagnostic equipment, and Blackwood-owned assets.
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend long-term corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, fleet coordinators, and other technicians to support operational efficiency.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies on service vehicles.
  • Travel to various job sites as needed, including occasional overnight stays.
