FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN – CHICAGO Quest International | Chicago, IL / Field-Based Pay: $24.00 - $35.00 per hour, plus overtime eligibility Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Travel: Extensive travel required, including overnight travel Required: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, rental vehicle eligibility, and required vehicle/insurance standards when applicable Mandatory Test: Human Performance Test JOB PURPOSE The Field Service Technician supports Quest International customers by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing A/V, electro-mechanical, and medical equipment at customer sites. This role requires hands-on technical ability, extensive travel readiness, schedule flexibility, strong documentation habits, and professional customer communication in medical and customer-site environments. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform onsite installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repair of A/V, electro-mechanical, and medical equipment. • Travel extensively for scheduled and unscheduled service work, including overnight travel, early-morning departures, late-night returns, and customer-driven service windows. • Work overtime as needed based on travel days, urgent service calls, escalations, customer-site access, equipment downtime, and project deadlines. • Support hospitals, medical facilities, and customer locations with professional communication, timely updates, and strong customer-service follow-through. • Troubleshoot equipment issues in the field, identify failed components or field-replaceable units, complete repairs, verify equipment operation, and escalate issues when needed. • Document service activity, parts usage, work performed, test results, customer updates, photos/checklists when required, and final resolution notes accurately. • Work independently while managing schedules, travel logistics, service priorities, customer expectations, and changing field conditions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma or equivalent. • 3+ years of hands-on A/V, electro-mechanical, medical equipment, or related field service experience. • Experience with installation, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, field troubleshooting, and repair. • Experience performing field-replaceable unit, component, or equipment-level troubleshooting and repair. • Experience using diagnostic tools such as digital multimeters, vacuum/pressure meters, frequency counters, or similar test equipment. • Strong cable media knowledge, including Coax, HDMI, USB, Cat5/Cat6, connectors, wiring, and signal-flow troubleshooting. • Experience supporting A/V equipment such as speakers, monitors, displays, audio consoles, amplifiers, DSPs, video matrix switchers, PC interfaces, DVRs, CCTV, or related systems. • Ability to travel extensively, work customer-site schedules, support overtime needs, and handle medical/customer-site environments professionally. • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to rent and operate vehicles for field assignments. • Ability to perform essential field-work requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, crawling, climbing, standing, and using tools. • Pay alignment with $24.00 - $35.00 per hour. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • A/V setup, configuration, installation, CCTV, low-voltage, structured cabling, POS/kiosk, smart-hands, or remote-eyes support experience. • Medical, hospital, clinical, biomedical, industrial, military electronics, avionics, robotics, mechatronics, or BMET-style experience. • CompTIA A+, electronics coursework, technical school, or equivalent hands-on training. • Experience working in medical/customer-site environments with customer-specific training, access requirements, and professional site conduct. • Experience managing frequent travel, overnight stays, early mornings, late nights, overtime, rental vehicles, lodging, schedules, and expenses independently. • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, service documentation, work-order, proof-of-work, customer communication, and escalation-support skills. • Stable field-service work history, supervisor reference readiness, and long-term interest in hands-on field service work. WORKING CONDITIONS This is a field-based role requiring extensive travel to customer sites, including hospitals, medical facilities, and customer-site environments. Overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, overtime, and customer-driven service windows may be required. The role requires standing, bending, crawling, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, using tools, handling equipment, and following customer-site safety and access requirements. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS • Pay Range: $24.00 - $35.00 per hour • Overtime: Overtime eligible based on business need, travel, urgent service calls, customer-site access, equipment downtime, escalations, and applicable wage-and-hour requirements • Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire • Total Compensation Range: $49,920 - $72,800 annually, before overtime Actual compensation is based on job-related factors, including skills, experience, A/V service background, electro-mechanical repair experience, medical/customer-site experience, diagnostic tool experience, travel readiness, documentation accuracy, and overall role alignment.
