DSC COMMUNICATIONS FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN

The position of Service Technician includes setup, programming, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of communication equipment, including mobiles, base stations, repeaters, paging terminals, consoles, microwave links, and antenna systems. This requires superior technical, troubleshooting, and problem resolution skills.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Principles and techniques of radio systems technology, programming, and analysis.
  • Principles and techniques of computer technology, IP, and Networking.
  • Report preparation, research methods, and statistical principles.
  • Application and interpretation of policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Superior technical, troubleshooting, and problem resolution skills
Ability to use various test equipment, including a system analyzer
Associate degree in Electronics or an associated field
Ability to effectively communicate with customers and fellow employees
Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and move freely in the performance of the job
Ability to lift to 75 pounds, required to move 125 pounds from time to time
Good computer skills
Valid driver’s license
Attendance is critical to this position

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Troubleshooting and repair to the component level
Set up, programming, and checkout of equipment
Installation, including grounding, and optimization (40-foot maximum climbing height)
Final checkout and training with the customer
Building and equipment maintenance, clean up, and inventory
On-call and occasional overtime are required
Miscellaneous duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Work is performed in various settings: primarily in an office environment but also at customer locations. There is also limited travel to and from local and regional trainings, meetings, and conferences, or similar. Incumbent works with radios, spectrum analyzers, test equipment, laptop computers, network servers, desktop computers, remote connectivity, including VPN and remote desktop, telephones, and other general office equipment that require detailed dexterity. Work involves keyboarding and manual dexterity, and also entails general reaching, stretching, and lifting. Some walking, bending, carrying, and moving of program equipment and materials is required.
