NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL BE INITIALLY BASED IN LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA. CANDIDATES SHOULD BE LOCATED IN/NEAR LAKE CHARLES, OR OPEN TO TRAVEL TO BE CONSIDERED.

This position is located on an active construction site with restricted access. Candidates will be expected to pass drug screenings and have a clear criminal and driving history to comply with site requirements.

JOB SUMMARY

Field Engineers plan, design, develop and manage projects for the construction or repair of buildings and a wide variety of other construction projects. They may also specialist in foundation analysis, building and structural inspection, surveying and/or geomatics. A Field Engineer provides project controls according to the contract documents, and provides assistance to the project superintendent for overall project oversight, as needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Two plus years of experience in field operations on a large commercial construction project (hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.)
  • Previous experience and knowledge of construction worksite safety practices and procedures
  • Previous experience and knowledge of OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and standards
  • PC proficiency in MS Office products, spreadsheet, and databases; familiarity with Procore and P6 is a plus
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen
  • Must possess a current and valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record

Responsibilities
  • Understand drawings and specifications for construction
  • Conduct field layouts and surveying activities
  • Establish exterior-interior grade and working lines for contractors or crafts
  • Assist in the evaluation of potential dimensions and other field problems
  • Understand quality requirements and industry standards for various construction types
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the TMG Safety Manual and OSHA Safety standards
  • Operate by having the capabilities to set direction to aid the project superintendent, lead & develop others while holding others accountable
  • Establish direction and know what controls are needed from a third party survey company in order for work to be performed
  • Have the ability to install control lines needed in order to perform the layout to construct the building in accordance with the project documents
  • Have the ability to maintain your layout field book daily while making sure all your notes, dimensions, and past work history are logged in daily
  • Understand and review all documents and verify the locations and elevations of all embedded items for all scopes of work
  • Have the ability to verify all MEP rough in is located in the proper location
  • Minimize mistakes and make sure there is zero rework due to construction layout
  • Understand and read all related spec sections, submittals, and shop drawings to ensure they align with the contract documents
  • Compare the architectural drawings to the structural drawings, look for conflicts ahead of time to avoid any rework
  • Have the ability to generate RFIs as needed
  • Review and compare subcontractors documents to ensure they match the contract documents
  • Have the ability to review and research all related conflicts in the shop drawings that may require additional information
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent

  • May oversee some subcontractor work activities, as assigned
