Description:

Field Supervisor
Jealous Fruits is the northernmost large scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all hand packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to our customers worldwide.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Crew Manager the Team Leader will lead our cherry-picking teams in the field to insure safe and efficient cherry picking.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Manage cherry picking teams of 20+ pickers to ensure safe and efficient cherry picking and safe tree line movement.
  • Maintaining our quality driven processes.
  • Take part in and provide Health and Safety and on-the-job training to pickers/field workers as required.
  • Report all received QC reports to Crew Managers.
  • Ensure all trees in picking block are picked clean of cherries.
  • Assist the Crew Managers and Farm/Operations Managers as required.
  • Attend daily morning meetings and debrief your team.
  • Hold toolbox crew talks in the morning.
  • Assist with any team or individual issues.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed, and workers are following SOP’s.
  • Maintain ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in cherry production is an asset.
  • Strong communications skills
  • Good attention to detail and accurate reporting.
  • Must be a flexible team player who works well in a busy and demanding environment.
  • Able to work for extended periods of time in a focused, safe, and professional manner.
  • Fluent in Spanish as a second language is an asset.
  • Valid First Aid qualification preferred (current OFA level 2 or 3 would be an asset)

Working conditions

Our working environment is extremely challenging over a short period of time. Applicants should be aware that this is a farming environment and days off may be limited during our growing and packing season. Applicants should be aware that:

  • Work hours are not calendar based, but are dependent on crop maturity and weather.
  • As agricultural employment that overtime provisions do not apply for these positions.
  • Working is conducted outside; it is advisable to dress in layered clothing.

  • Work hours are generally up to 50 hours per week and can be longer.
  • Successful candidates will have flexible schedules (early morning, nights and weekends).
  • Applicants must be available from early July until early to mid-September.
  • The candidate must have the ability to work well with people of varying backgrounds and nationalities.
