Overview:
Join our team as a variable shift, full-time, Ambulance Service Field Training Officer (FTO)/ Paramedic in Amarillo, TX.

GET TO KNOW YOUR TEAM:

  • BSA provides 24-hour paramedic care through our ambulance service, which responds to emergencies in Canyon and 825 square miles of Randall County. BSA EMS staffs two stations 24/7/365, one in northern Randall County and one in Canyon.

Responsibilities:

  • The Field Training Officer (FTO) performs a vital role in the transition of a former EMT or a new employee to a functioning lead paramedic or EMT within our system.
  • Selection as an FTO demonstrates a history of proficiency and ability as an exemplary employee and lead paramedic.
  • As a paramedic, the FTO is accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, efficient manner and providing the highest standards of patient care while keeping a safe and hazard-free environment.
  • In the role of Paramedic, the FTO works with an EMT on a MICU ambulance and contributes to overall patient care in the areas of patient assessment, triage, packaging and transport according to protocol.
  • As an FTO, he/she serves as a role model regarding customer service, communication skills, and application and performance of protocol.
  • The FTO is responsible for instilling desired qualities and skills in the probationary employee as part of the overall goal of the BSA EMS educational program.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification or Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Education for pre-hospital Professional (PEPP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Texas DSHS certification as EMT Paramedic/Licensed Paramedic
  • National Registry or Texas DSHS Licensed Paramedic/Equivalent associate’s degree.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess and maintain all certifications required by the Medical Control Board and by the BSA EMS Master Contract.
  • Possess and maintain current Texas motor vehicle operator’s license and meet all company requirements according to policy.
  • The FTO is held to an extremely high standard with the following performance requirements:
  • Achieve and maintain turnaround times of twenty minutes on P1s and P2s at least 80% of the time.
  • Obtain proper signatures or acceptable documentation in lieu of, on all PCRs with no more than one failure per month.
  • Achieve a score of 84% or better on Protocol Tests prior to and following appointment as FTO
  • No more than two CQI audits of any kind within a 365-day period.
