Description

Human Services Research Institute (HSRI) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Finance Associate to join our team! This role is responsible for processing invoices, managing vendor payments and employee reimbursements, assisting with payroll processing, and maintaining accurate financial records. You will also contribute to data analysis and reporting, support financial audits, and collaborate closely with HR and other functional areas. This is a hybrid position with a requirement to work from our Cambridge, MA, office at least 2 times per week.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Finance Associate will work under the supervision of the Director of Finance to support the ongoing growth and development of the finance team. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work under limited supervision to assist with financial reporting, processing, and audits, with the ability to problem-solve. Strong organizational skills, a commitment to accuracy, and a passion for continuous learning and improvement are key qualities for success in this role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field required. Bachelors preferred.
  • 4 years’ experience in accounts payable and payroll processing
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Xero) and MS Excel
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and financial compliance
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling financial and employee records
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, especially in working with HR and administration
  • Attention to detail and strong commitment to high-quality work
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Foundational computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
  • Use of Outlook email and calendaring
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Use of online teleconferencing software (e.g., Zoom, Teams)

Responsibilities
  • Process and review supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper approvals
  • Manage vendor payments, maintain payment schedules, and resolve discrepancies
  • Reconcile accounts payable ledgers and prepare payment reports
  • Implement complex data analysis to create actionable analytic output and community-level reporting needs
  • Assist with processing payroll, ensuring accurate calculations of salaries, deductions, and benefits
  • Maintain records of staff allowances, overtime, tax deductions, and other payroll-related financial matters
  • Collaborate with HR in managing staff expense claims and reimbursements
  • Maintain financial records related to employee benefits and entitlements
  • Assist in tracking staff financial data, such as contract payments and allowances
  • Assist with budget tracking and expenditure monitoring
  • Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary financial documentation
  • Ensure payroll transactions comply with company policies and government regulations
