ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

Responsibilities

The Finance Business Partner’s role is to provide financial management support to program areas within the VSBA. The Finance Business Partner is responsible for undertaking financial performance analysis, preparing and submitting budget phasings and finance journals in consultation with program areas, improving financial processes and supporting budget management reporting.

Expert Financial Advice and Support

  • Deliver expert financial advice to internal customers, ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Assist in reviewing costings for business areas within the designated portfolio, ensuring accuracy and alignment with budgetary objectives.

Financial Administration

  • Maintain accurate financial data, records, databases, and information systems in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Prepare and submit budget and finance journals as required, ensuring timeliness and accuracy in financial reporting.

Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and manage productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on key contacts in business areas.
  • Provide support and guidance to stakeholders in interpreting and applying budget reports, financial policies, and systems.

Strategic Contribution and Outcomes

  • Align day-to-day financial planning and activities with broader departmental and team strategies.
  • Actively contribute to innovation and continuous improvement by sharing ideas and encouraging a culture of learning and development.
  • Communicate complex financial and operational issues clearly and confidently to a range of audiences, both verbally and in writing.

Administrative and Corporate Support

  • Provide expert administrative and corporate support, ensuring seamless operations across business functions.
  • Draft high-quality reports and recommendations by analysing and interpreting financial and operational data.
