Finance Business Partner – Strategic Financial Leadership in Defence Services
We are seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to join our team at VIVO Defence Services, where you’ll play a pivotal role in strengthening the connection between finance and operations. You will drive financial performance and enable strategic decision-making in a high-value, complex environment.
The Role
In this role, you’ll be responsible for defining what effective finance business partnering looks like across VIVO. Working closely with business units and departments, you’ll foster a culture of collaboration and accountability, positioning finance as a key enabler of operational success. You’ll take ownership of a designated portfolio of management accounts and lead the preparation of high-quality monthly reporting and analysis to support executive insight and informed decisions.
You will lead the budgeting and forecasting process, supported by rolling forecasts and ongoing engagement with budget holders. Your work will underpin the creation of robust KPIs and reporting frameworks, ensuring that operational and financial performance is consistently visible and measurable. A strong focus on monitoring and analysing financial and operational trends will be central to your success, as you work with senior operational leaders to understand profitability, mitigate financial risks, and identify strategic opportunities.
A significant part of your role will involve partnering with the commercial and billable works teams to ensure accuracy in revenue recognition, cost control, and work-in-progress tracking. You will advocate for timely billing and cash collection, actively reporting on delays and facilitating commercial and financial resolutions when issues arise. As a trusted finance voice within the Operations Directors’ senior team, you will contribute to strategic decision-making, performance reviews, and planning conversations.
In addition to operational finance responsibilities, you will support the annual statutory accounts process, ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial records, and liaise with external stakeholders including auditors, shareholders, and tax advisors. You’ll maintain a high standard of financial integrity, leading by example and ensuring financial processes meet both group and regulatory expectations.
This is also a leadership position where you will develop and manage a small team, contribute to business-wide projects and change programmes, and continuously seek process improvements. You’ll play a key role in strategic initiatives, from supporting bids and business cases to implementing automation and strengthening internal controls.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience.
You should have a strong foundation in business partnering, preferably in defence, infrastructure, or asset-heavy environments. A deep understanding of IFRS, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with senior stakeholders are essential. You’ll also need excellent analytical skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and ideally some exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems.
This is a hybrid role with flexible home working combined with regular travel across the UK to engage with leaders, teams, and customers. While it can be based from various locations, it would ideally suit someone located on the M5 Corridor in the South West. You will be required to attend the Birmingham office twice a month, as well as regular travel to sites covering Gloucestershire to Cornwall and Plymouth.
With VIVO Defence’s portfolio exceeding £600 million per year and expected to grow, this is a high-impact opportunity to influence the financial direction of a major defence services provider. If you’re ready to take your finance career to the next level and make a tangible impact in a critical national infrastructure environment, we’d love to hear from you.
What We Offer
6% employee matched pension contribution
25 days annual leave
Private medical cover for self and partner
Bonus up to 10%
