Position Title: Finance Casual Labor Volunteer Location: Damascus, Syria Reporting To: Finance Officer Contract Type: Part-time- Volunteer Paid volunteer role: $28 per day Background & Purpose: The Near East Foundation (NEF) Syria Country Programme operates across Damascus, North Syria, and multiple field office locations. As NEF prepares to establish and operationalize its Damascus office, there is a need for temporary finance support to bring financial documentation up to date, properly archived, and in full compliance with donor and internal audit requirements. The Finance Casual Labour Volunteer will provide hands-on support to the Finance team during the document review, stamping, scanning, and reconciliation phase following office establishment. This role is critical to ensuring that all financial supporting documents are accurate, properly filed, and aligned with financial reporting data. Duties & Responsibilities Document Review & Verification Review all financial supporting documents received from field centers and the procurement team. Check documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with NEF financial policies and donor requirements. Flag any missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documents to the Finance Officer for follow-up. Ensure documents are properly sorted and organized by project, donor, cost center, and period. Invoice & Document Stamping Apply the appropriate payment and receipt stamps to all processed invoices and vouchers. Ensure stamps are applied in the correct fields as per NEF stamping procedures. Verify that all required authorizing signatures are present before and after stamping. Scanning & Digital Archiving Scan all financial supporting documents using office scanning equipment. Name and save scanned files according to NEF’s digital filing naming convention (by donor, project code, voucher reference, and date). Upload scanned files to the designated shared drive or document management system in an organized folder structure. Maintain a log of scanned documents to confirm completeness and traceability. Physical Archiving Organize and file original hard-copy documents in labelled binders/folders by project, donor, and period. Ensure physical files are stored in a secure, orderly, and accessible manner within the finance archive. Cross-reference physical files with the digital archive to confirm alignment. Financial Report Reconciliation Support Cross-check supporting documents against financial report data to confirm accuracy and completeness. Identify and escalate any discrepancies between documents and reported figures to the Finance team. Assist in preparing document checklists and tracking sheets to support financial report sign-off. Qualifications & Requirements Education & Experience Background in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (university student or graduate preferred). Prior exposure to finance or administrative work in an NGO, UN agency, or similar organization is an advantage. Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to operate a document scanner. Ability to handle a high volume of documents efficiently and methodically. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Language Arabic (required). Intermediate English reading ability is an advantage for donor document headers and codes.
