GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs accounting and financial record keeping work requiring knowledge of the practices and methods of book keeping and familiarity with the operations and procedures of financial systems. Employees assigned to this classification are primarily responsible for reviewing financial transaction documents for accuracy completeness and conformance with established policy and procedures. This position often represents the initial contact between the City and the customer; therefore professionalism must be exhibited at all times. Work under general supervision of Customer Service Supervisor or Accounting Manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one (1) year of billing/cashiering or clerical experience working with financial data.
  • A comparable amount of education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Valid Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE; SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to greet and deal with the public in a pleasant and professional manner in person; on the telephone or through the mail.
  • Knowledge of utilities policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English; verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills; ability to enter data into computer systems and to read and understand computer generated reports; working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work well with customers as well as other City personnel.
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure from customers.
  • Ability to read; interprets; and follow all City rules; policies; practices and procedures and use all safety equipment properly and with its intended purpose.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to talk by means of spoken words.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
  • Able to lift and /and or carry weights of five to ten pounds.
  • Sitting most of the time.
  • Standing for periods of time

. • Able to exert up to five pound of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift; carry; push; pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines and equipment including computer systems and components; copier; multi-line telephone; calculator; two-way radio; general office equipment; validator for cash receipts.
