Description
Are you a commercially driven Finance leader who wants to shape strategy — not just report on it? We’re looking for a Finance Director to join the leadership team of two growing manufacturing businesses within the Biffa Group. You’ll act as a true business partner to the Managing Director and senior leadership team — challenging, guiding and supporting performance while helping drive organic growth, acquisitions and operational improvement. This is an opportunity for a strategic thinker who enjoys influence, autonomy and building value in a dynamic operational environment. The role As Finance Director, you will be a core member of a four-person executive team responsible for delivering profitable growth and long-term strategy across a £150m revenue business. You’ll lead the finance function while playing a pivotal role in commercial decision-making, investment activity and performance improvement. Key responsibilities include: · Shaping financial strategy, annual budgets and 5-year plans · Partnering with operations and commercial teams to improve performance and profitability · Supporting pricing decisions, tenders and customer contract management · Leading investment appraisal and acquisition activity · Providing insight-driven reporting and meaningful operational MI · Developing financial controls and governance frameworks · Influencing business strategy, market entry and growth opportunities · Managing and developing the finance team · You’ll operate at both strategic and operational levels — from board-level planning to hands-on commercial support. What makes this role exciting? · This isn’t a reporting role — it’s a leadership role. · You’ll be central to how the business grows: evaluating investments, supporting acquisitions, influencing pricing and helping operational teams improve productivity. · You will have real autonomy, direct exposure to senior stakeholders and the ability to leave a lasting commercial impact across multiple sites and functions. What do I need to be successful? · Qualified accountant (ACA or CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience · Senior finance leadership experience within an operational business · Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence non-finance stakeholders · Experience in planning, reporting, forecasting and financial control · Confident communicator comfortable operating at executive level · Ability to drive improvement, challenge constructively and lead change Desirable: · Manufacturing or multi-site experience · M&A or investment appraisal exposure · Contract-based or operationally intensive environments You’ll succeed if you enjoy partnering with the business, not sitting outside it — and if you see finance as a driver of performance, not just measurement. Why join? · A genuine executive leadership position with strategic influence · Direct impact on growth, acquisitions and investment decisions · High visibility across senior leadership and group stakeholders · Autonomy to shape processes, performance and commercial outcomes · Long-term development within a major, purpose-driven organisation Biffa – changing the way people think about waste At Biffa, we love working with waste.
