COMPANY OVERVIEW

Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, seeks a Financial Controller to join a dynamic and diverse team of arts professionals at one of the region’s most admired and accomplished ballet companies, with approximately 75 full time employees and a $7 million annual budget.
The Controller reports to the Executive Director and will complete or oversee all functions related to finance including payroll, cash flow, reporting, forecasting, maintaining control of income and expenses, multi-year budgeting, and assisting department heads with the budget process. This position ensures daily stability of all accounting functions and provides monthly reporting to the Finance Committee and Board leadership.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred
  • 10+ years of accounting experience working in a leadership role
Responsibilities

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads one full time and one part time staff member.
  • Maintains relationship with bank representatives and insurance agents, as applicable

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares Payroll
  • Reviews transactions posted to bank accounts
  • Handles all cash management, including all payables and receivables, and reviews posting of cash receipts and disbursements
  • Manages all payables and receivables
  • Reviews and posts all month-end JEs
  • Reviews monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepares monthly reconciliations for the Company and School of Richmond Ballet (SRB)
  • Prepares all reports and forecasts for Finance Committee and Board
  • Prepares audit schedules, including pledge confirmations, and preparation of annual financial statements and works with external auditor for preparation of 990s.
  • Calculates and prepares annual endowment draw
  • Prepares annual budget, including 5-year capex budget
  • Participates in meetings with insurance broker to evaluate insurance needs and renewals
  • Files all compliance requirements such as VDACS registration, business license renewal, SCC annual reports, debt covenant calculations, tax exempt applications, etc.
  • Reviews 1099s prepared by Accountant for accuracy and completeness before filing
  • Maintains manual fixed asset and depreciation schedule, and records depreciation expense
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal Laws
  • Records Campaign cash receipts and payments, if any.
  • Records activity in operating reserve and endowment accounts, per investment statements
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the job classification
