Finance Manager Location: Remote Employment Type: Full-Time Role Overview We are hiring a Finance Manager to lead and manage all day-to-day financial operations, with a strong focus on cost control, invoice scrutiny, vendor management, and margin optimization. While we partner with an external accounting firm for bookkeeping, taxes, and reconciliations, this role is deeply embedded internally—owning real-time financial workflows, enforcing internal controls, and partnering cross-functionally to support smart, profitable decision-making. Core ResponsibilitiesDay-to-Day Financial Management Own and manage daily invoice review and approvals, flagging errors, out-of-scope charges, or cost anomalies Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely vendor payments and tracking aged invoices Coordinate weekly check runs and flag unusual trends or non-standard requests Vendor & Expense Oversight Review and reconcile invoices across manufacturing, 3PL, marketing, software, and freelance vendors Track department-level spend (Marketing, Operations, R&D) and enforce budget adherence Conduct detailed line-item reviews to identify waste, duplication, or overspend Work directly with vendors to clarify charges, correct errors, and renegotiate terms when needed Profitability & Margin Analysis Monitor gross margins by sales channel on an ongoing basis Track COGS fluctuations (ingredients, packaging, logistics, fulfillment) Evaluate promotional performance (bundles, sales, campaigns) and model net profit impact Identify margin improvement opportunities and present actionable recommendations Forecasting & Financial Modeling Develop and maintain rolling 3–6 month financial forecasts, updated monthly Build scenario-based models for initiatives such as PO scaling, hiring, and expansion Align forecast assumptions with inventory cycles, operational plans, and sales trends KPI Reporting & Strategic Finance Prepare and maintain monthly financial dashboards and executive summaries Track key KPIs including gross margin, LTV:CAC, refund rate, burn rate, expense ratios, and channel profitability Partner closely with leadership to connect financial insights with marketing and operational performance Compliance & Controls Collaborate with external accountants on reconciliations, journal entries, and tax filings Manage sales tax, use tax, multi-state filings, business license renewals, and vendor 1099s Develop and enforce internal controls, including payment approvals, PO systems, and documentation standards Support insurance documentation, audits, and legal reviews as needed Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Operations on inventory spend, inbound POs, reorder timing, and freight costs Work with HR on payroll alignment, reimbursements, and benefits spend tracking Support Product Development with ingredient and packaging cost analysis and pricing guidance Align with Marketing on budget pacing, CAC tracking, and campaign profitability Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) 5–8 years of hands-on financial management experience, ideally within DTC, CPG, or ecommerce Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets Experience using tools such as QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Ramp, or similar platforms Exceptional attention to detail and willingness to review invoices and financial data daily Proven experience in budget planning, expense tracking, and margin forecasting Comfortable working in a fast-paced, founder-led startup environment Strong communication skills with the ability to partner proactively across teams and vendors Bonus Qualifications CPA or MBA Experience with Amazon, Shopify Plus, or TikTok Shop analytics Prior exposure to NetSuite, Sage, or other mid-market ERP systems Familiarity with cost accounting for physical products
