REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE; SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • Commitment to Union principles, the PSA Executive and Central Council.
  • Possesses a good general knowledge of the overall structure, functions and requirements of each unit of the Association.
  • Tertiary Accounting Qualifications and 3+ years work experience in similar role
  • CA or CPA qualified or working towards.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software- preferably GreenTree software program.
  • Sound knowledge of payroll processing, employee entitlements and award provisions.
  • Extensive general ledger accounts payable, accounts receivable and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction, exercise initiative and independent judgment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and stay well organized.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Intermediate to advanced PC skills using Microsoft Office skills including Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new computer programs and other technology.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and demonstrated ability to plan and manage competing demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the public sector, government corporations and Unions.
Responsibilities

The Public Service Association of NSW (PSA) represents over 40,000 employees in diverse roles across NSW Government departments, state owned corporations, schools, universities and TAFEs.
The Finance Manager reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The Accounts Team is responsible for the accounting, finance and payroll functions of the PSA and for ensuring that member funds are spent in accordance with PSA rules and member expectations. Accounts is a highly structured and deadline-driven work environment.
