Description

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • It would be advantageous if the applicant had UK and Irish construction experience.
  • Qualified Accountant with at least 5 years post qualification experience working in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Experience operating the Construction industry Scheme for both contractors and subcontractors.
  • Experience operating UK payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Domestic Reverse Charge VAT Mechanism for companies within the Construction industry Scheme and has operated VAT accounting through Making Tax Digital (introduced 2022).
  • Experience managing a fixed assets register, capitalising assets and claiming capital allowance annually.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards & financial principles, processes and practices.
  • Experience operating within a group structure managing intercompany balances and bank accounts/cash utilisation.
  • Experience preparing monthly management meeting packs for directors including management accounts/cashflows/budgets/intercompany balances/job costs.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Proactive and driven to continuously improve systems and processes
  • Exceptional time management
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent IT & Microsoft Office skills

Responsibilities

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

Due to continuing expansion, CField is seeking a motivated, qualified / experienced Finance Manager to lead the financial management of the business. The role also offers the opportunity for the successful candidate will to work closely with senior management to ensure the requirements of a growing business are met and optimised.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Managing Director UK / Finance Director, the successful candidate will lead the finance team whilst overseeing the financial health of the company. The role involves managing financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and compliance while ensuring efficient financial operations. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, VAT returns, budgets, cashflows, cash utilisation reports, project costs, fixed asset register, retention workbooks, WIP calculations for monthly management meeting.
  • Prepare and file monthly VAT returns under Domestic Reverse Charge rules and monthly Construction Industry Scheme and PAYE filings in line with HMRC deadlines.
  • Manage the company bank accounts and inter company balances whilst monitoring FX rates.
  • Manage the Purchase to Pay system to ensure we are fraud aware.
  • Perform financial analysis to identify and resolve issues, monitor costs, and investigate variances.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and improve financial performance.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and streamline workflows
  • Coordinate daily workflow, including detailed account analysis and general ledger reconciliations
  • Collaborate with external auditors for year-end reviews and statutory audits
  • Contribute to policy development, ensuring compliance with internal controls and UK finance regulations
  • Enhance processes and provide technical expertise and guidance to the Finance team
  • Ensure all financial reporting and taxation compliance requirements are met in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Collaborate with senior leadership team to support business growth
  • Coordinate and deliver annual external audit, acting as liaison and building strong relationship with the auditors
  • Ensure appropriate policies, processes and procedures are in place and compliant with accounting standards
  • Manage, mentor and develop the Finance team providing training and guidance
  • Organise and manage team workload, ensuring adequate resources and high-standard performance
