ROLE PURPOSE

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced accountancy professional to join a progressive large unitary authority which has recently seen its Children’s Service Ofsted rating move from Inadequate to Good this was shortlisted by the Municipal Journal for Local Authority of the Year.
This is a key role, and we are looking for a candidate with the experience to develop and deliver a robust business partnering service for children’s services within our accountancy team. The role requires leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate others, and experience in local government finance. You will understand what best practice looks like as you will be setting professional standards and will lead by example.

The main purpose of the Finance Manager role is to partner with a service area providing financial advice and guidance to deliver a comprehensive financial accounting, management accounting and advisory service. This role will lead and manage a small team of accountants in delivering this service.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include for the designated service areas to:

  • Provide consistent and comprehensible financial advice and support to officers and members.
  • Lead the production of financial reports and information and be the financial expert for the service area.
  • Lead on the financial aspects of policy development.
  • Plan, direct and monitor the work of the finance team.
  • Support the development of business cases.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget and medium-term financial plan for the service area.
