ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting an experienced Finance Manager with a strong project-based finance background to join an established maritime engineering and manufacturing business based in Yamba, NSW.

Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with senior Group finance leadership, this is a broad commercial finance position with a strong focus on project financial performance.

The business delivers multiple concurrent vessel build projects, so we are looking for someone who understands the financial lifecycle of complex projects. This includes estimating, budgeting, project costing, WIP, revenue recognition, forecasting, margin analysis, progress claims and project completion.

Approximately 75% of the position is focused on operational and commercial finance, including project costing, estimating support, budgeting, profitability analysis and financial management. The remaining 25% supports Group Finance across reporting, cashflow, audit and compliance.

This is a hands-on role that requires someone who can work closely with Project Managers and operational leaders to understand where projects are performing well, where margins are moving and what action needs to be taken.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own financial performance across a portfolio of concurrent projects.
• Manage project and job costing, including actual performance against estimate.
• Provide clear visibility of project margins throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Identify cost and margin variances early and work with operational teams to address them.
• Manage WIP and revenue recognition across active projects.
• Manage milestone and progress claims.
• Lead budgeting, rolling forecasts and cashflow forecasting.
• Manage working capital and project cashflow.
• Partner with Project Managers and operational leaders around cost control and commercial performance.
• Support estimating and tendering activities.
• Review labour, material and overhead assumptions used within project estimates.
• Conduct post project financial reviews to improve future estimating and profitability.
• Lead management reporting and financial control.
• Support Group reporting, audit, compliance and Board reporting requirements.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Around 5 to 8 years or more of experience across management accounting, commercial finance or finance management.
• Strong experience working within a project-based business environment.
• Demonstrated project accounting, project finance or job costing experience.
• Strong understanding of project costs, margins and WIP.
• Experience with revenue recognition and progress or milestone claims.
• Experience managing budgets, forecasts and cashflow.
• Strong understanding of actual project performance against estimate.
• Experience supporting project estimating, pricing or tendering.
• Strong commercial and financial analysis skills.
• Experience partnering directly with Project Managers and operational leaders.
• Strong ERP capability and advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

Candidates could come from manufacturing, engineering, construction, infrastructure, fabrication, shipbuilding or another project-based industry where individual projects have defined budgets, costs, milestones and margins.
