Role Overview The Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial management function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, regulatory compliance, and effective utilization of financial resources. The role plays a key part in strategic financial planning, loan portfolio analysis, risk management, and leading the finance team to support sustainable growth and business objectives within a microfinance environment. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Analysis Oversee daily financial operations including disbursements, repayments, collections, invoicing, and other financial transactions. Monitor the organization’s financial performance and investments, identifying opportunities for revenue growth and cost efficiency. Analyze loan portfolio performance and quality, identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement, and provide actionable recommendations to management. Support strategic planning through robust financial analysis and forecasting. Financial Reporting & Budgeting Prepare and review accurate daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports covering cash position, loan portfolio performance, and operating expenses. Ensure financial reports are aligned with approved budgets, financial plans, and strategic objectives. Present management reports highlighting performance variances, key risks, challenges, and recommended corrective actions. Support the preparation of reports for senior management and the Executive Committee. Finance Operations & Compliance Ensure strong internal financial controls are implemented and consistently adhered to. Monitor compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards relevant to credit and lending operations. Oversee coordination with internal stakeholders to ensure loan security documentation is properly executed, perfected, and securely maintained. Identify financial and operational risks and implement effective controls to minimize exposure. Risk Management Regularly assess financial and credit-related risks, including loan portfolio risk, liquidity risk, and interest rate exposure. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard the organization’s financial stability. Monitor the effectiveness of risk controls and recommend improvements where necessary. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement Lead, mentor, and manage the finance team to drive high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular performance reviews and support staff development and capacity building. Collaborate with other departments to support financial strategy execution and operational efficiency. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance transparency, accountability, and credibility. Requirements Qualifications & Experience Education & Professional Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional qualification such as CPA (K), ACCA, or equivalent is required. A Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration is an added advantage. Experience At least 5–8 years’ relevant experience in finance or accounting, with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role. Experience within microfinance, banking, SACCOs, or other lending institutions is preferred. Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, loan portfolio analysis, and regulatory compliance. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of microfinance operations and credit processes. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. Proven leadership and people management capability. Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information to senior stakeholders. High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
