Description

Our client, a mission-driven not-for-profit organization and one of the oldest in Canada, is seeking a talented Finance Manager to oversee our accounting operations and provide financial leadership in support of our community impact. Reporting to senior leadership and managing a small team, this role combines hands-on financial management with a strong focus on process improvement, compliance, and stewardship of resources.
The ideal candidate will be a CPA (or actively pursuing designation) with proven leadership skills, a collaborative approach, and a passion for contributing their expertise to a purpose-driven organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing with significant progress).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably in the not-for-profit or charitable sector.
  • Experience managing or mentoring staff.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with funding models, grants, and restricted funds is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
  • Lead month-end reporting and variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. prior year) to provide timely, accurate insights for decision-making.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, ensuring smooth completion of annual audited financial statements.
  • Provide strong financial support for annual program licensing assessments and other ad hoc projects, including analysis and rationalization of revenue streams.
  • Train, support, and lead the accounts payable team in managing a high volume of invoices and expense claims while overseeing the transition to EFT payments.
  • Identify and resolve process gaps by working cross-functionally to implement new systems and workflows, improving accuracy and efficiency in A/P and A/R functions.
