Description

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, balancing hands-on financial management with budgeting, reporting, compliance and strategic financial support.

As part of a lean organisation, this is a genuine end-to-end role where you will work closely with an external accounting firm to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, manage compliance requirements and support the organisation's financial operations. You will also partner with the CEO, executive team and project leaders to provide meaningful financial insights, support decision-making and ensure funding is managed effectively.

You will manage one direct report, an Administration Officer, and play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls, improving processes and supporting the organisation's ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on financial management: Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, cash flow and expenditure monitoring.
  • Financial reporting: Review monthly management accounts, analyse variances and prepare clear, accurate financial information for senior leadership, the Board and funding bodies.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Coordinate annual budgets, reforecasts and financial modelling, working closely with the external accounting firm and internal stakeholders.
  • External provider management: Act as the primary contact for the outsourced accounting firm, coordinating financial reporting, payroll, audit requirements and statutory compliance.
  • Funding and grants: Monitor grant expenditure, track funding milestones and prepare acquittals and financial reports in line with government funding agreements.
  • Governance and compliance: Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation obligations, ACNC reporting requirements and relevant funding conditions.
  • Process improvement: Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, reporting, systems and internal controls.
  • Team leadership: Support and develop one direct report while fostering a collaborative and accountable working environment.
