The opportunity:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the firm's financial accounting, compliance and reporting functions while leading a team spanning Financial Accounting and Trust Accounting.


You'll play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the firm's financial operations, managing statutory and regulatory obligations, driving process improvements and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.


This is an opportunity for a technically strong finance professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day operational responsibility with leadership, continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead and develop a team including a Financial Accountant, Assistant Accountants and Senior Trust Officers.
  • Oversee the month-end reporting cycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and insightful financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger and oversee balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage daily cash flow reporting and support effective financial decision-making.
  • Oversee taxation and regulatory compliance, including BAS, FBT, PAYG, Payroll Tax and Workers Compensation obligations.
  • Manage the firm's statutory reporting requirements and compliance obligations with ASIC, ATO and Law Society regulations.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and tax compliance processes.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities in partnership with the wider Finance team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, controls and financial processes.
  • Manage the firm's expense management framework, including credit card facilities and associated policies.
  • Oversee the management and compliance of internal fee funds.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and process documentation.
  • Contribute to broader Finance projects and initiatives as required.

About you:

  • CA or CPA qualification.
  • Experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Accounting Manager or similar leadership role.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial reporting and taxation expertise.
  • Experience within a legal, professional services or partnership environment.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance obligations.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.

What you'll do

  • Manage statutory reporting requirements, external audits, tax compliance, ASIC obligations and regulatory requirements for Australia and New Zealand entities. 

  • Oversee payroll governance and compliance with related legislation and taxation requirements. 

  • Drive effective working capital management, including short-term cash flow forecasting and cash controls. 

  • Lead the annual insurance renewal process and coordinate external audit activities across the finance function. 

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives that simplify processes, improve reporting quality and increase efficiency. 

  • Leverage emerging technologies, automation and AI solutions to enhance finance operations and reporting capabilities. 

  • Support the Head of Finance in delivering projects that strengthen governance, improve performance and enable future growth. 

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning. 

What you'll bring 

  • CA, CPA or internationally recognised equivalent accounting qualification. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading financial accounting and reporting functions within a complex or global business environment. 

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge combined with sound commercial acumen. 

  • Proven experience managing statutory reporting, audits, tax compliance and regulatory obligations. 

  • Strong understanding of cash flow management, working capital and financial controls. 

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams. 

  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

  • Strong systems capability, with Dynamics 365 experience highly regarded. 

  • Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills. 

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across the business. 

  • A proactive, adaptable and continuous improvement mindset.
