Description

ABOUT US

Be part of something special, be a part of Wolverhampton! a diverse and inclusive city, packed with passion, pride and endless potential.
At the City of Wolverhampton Council, we’re embarking on the next phase of our journey of transformation and change, ensuring we deliver on the Our City, Our Plan priorities and Our Future Council programme, our proactive and pragmatic response to local government financial challenges.
We have an exciting opportunity available to be part of our finance team at Finance Officer level within the Strategic Finance service.
We pride ourselves on being a supportive finance function that delivers a high standard of professional financial advice across the organisation by making strong relationships with budget managers and being part of the exciting improvements this city is making.

ABOUT YOU

As a Finance Officer you will be reporting to a Finance Manager.
You must be fully AAT qualified (Level 4 or equivalent) and/or hold a relevant degree with significant post qualification experience in financial management, ideally within a public sector organisation.
You will have the drive, determination and enthusiasm to deliver a high quality service for those you will support in trying to achieve the aims of the city.
Your practical experience and skills will be demonstrable in accounting and budgeting, as well as having a proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, working accurately to conflicting deadlines. You will be a self-starter, able to use initiative within delegated authority and to work with little supervision and direction. You will be able to establish and continue good working relationships, work effectively as part of a team and work under pressure when required.
Other desirable attributes specific to some of our finance officer roles include experience of capital projects, grant funding and statutory accounts.
In return, you will receive a competitive salary, a generous annual leave entitlement, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and other employee benefits including a range of retail discounts and salary sacrifice schemes.
Closing date for applications: 25 June 2025
Interviews to be held week commencing 7 July 2025

OUR WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for ‘touch down’ space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
Please refer to the Job Description for further information on the workstyle assigned to the role you are applying for.
